This year, the festival will not be able to welcome the usual 300,000 international festival visitors. However, this didn’t stop the organization to come up with an alternative version of the festival that will have the whole of Brussels buzzing with music once again. The program spreads corona proof concerts over the entire Brussels-Capital Region. Liaising closely with the local authorities involved, the Brussels Jazz Weekend follows all security measures in place. This way, Brussels Jazz Weekend wants to bring a positive message of hope to all those who have been struggling over the past few months and wants to contribute constructively to the revival of cultural life.
On Saturday 29 May and Sunday 30 May, local jazz musicians will play a live concert from an iconic balcony in each of the 19 municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region. Per concert, 50 music lovers are welcome to attend the performance seated.
The highlight on Saturday will be the 30 concerts performed by Brussels musicians from their own balcony at 9 p.m. An overview of who’s performing where is given on a digital map.
On Sunday, none other than the renowned Brussels Jazz Orchestra will close the festival at 9 p.m. from the balcony of the Broodhuis on the Grand-Place in the city center of Brussels.
Those who want to experience more than one concert can cycle from one balcony to the next along signposted cycle routes. A perfect opportunity to discover the varied landscape of the Brussels Region.
And there’s more. In light of this special edition, Brussels Jazz Weekend produced a brand-new podcast series called ‘Brussels Jazz Ambassadors’. Local musicians performing during the Balcony Edition, show listeners around their beloved Brussels municipality.
Since 2017, Brussels Jazz Weekend has made jazz and culture accessible to everyone. People with reduced mobility can enjoy live music throughout the region thanks to a specially tailored program.
